MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) and Free Glutamic Acid

MSG is just one of many chemical variations of a toxic chemical called "glutamic acid".  There are many other glutamate names as it exists in foods, which makes it very difficult to spot even when you know what you are looking for.  When dining out, it is even tougher to spot, because sometimes even the chefs don't know EVERYTHING that goes into their food.  For the sake of clarity, the term MSG, when used on this site, will pertain to Monosodium Glutamate, or ANY of the other forms of glutamic acid.

While this toxin does not seem to affect many people, the effects of this toxin on some people is quite catastrophic.  My reaction to MSG is that I experience lengthy and very painful migraine headaches, for which I must drug myself into a coma to avoid the horrendous pain.  For others, MSG will cause heart fibrillations, seizures, dizziness, nausea, paralysis and worse.  As you can see, it is imperative that those who are affected by this chemical stay as far from it as possible in order to lead a normal life.

Although it is very frustrating that the US government does not require warnings about this additive as they do about others (peanuts, for instance), this site is not designed to address the political issues (for this discussion, visit http://www.truthinlabeling.com/ or http://www.nomsg.com/).
